There is no clear cut and definitive method of making absolutely sure that one is secure and safe, however this does not mean that we shouldn’t.
We really need to be able to secure our homes and offices. Video surveillance is the best and most direct method I can think of to ensure that we are not only monitoring our surroundings, but our information as well.
Digital Video recording devices, Dome Cameras, Pin Hole Cameras and a whole plethora of devices can ensure that we are safer and more secure. It should go without saying, that to simply record video data is not enough.
We must be absolutely diligent in reviewing what our devices are capturing for us. Otherwise, why bother?
Now, recording the data and reviewing it is not enough. Archiving data is just as important. For example, some time ago I was watching the news and there was a video clip of a “Suspect” robbing a convenience store in this particular news cast.
The newscaster mentioned that this was not the first time this suspect was being sought for the same crime in the same shop! However, other than a VCR Tape, there was no other video evidence of this suspect maintained. If memory serves, the video tape had been recorded over and over (yes the same tape). Well, the tape quality to say the lease, was abysmal and not very helpful at all.
I recall that the newscaster mentioned that the authorities were relying on eye witness accounts of this particular event along with this single video of this suspect. Further, after some investigation, the authorities could not conclusively say whether this was the same individual.
Had the shop keeper in this case archived the video evidence, everyone involved was reasonably certain that the suspect would have been positively identified as the repeat offender.
It goes without saying that video surveillance equipment is not cheap, but it is a necessity in today’s environments.
This brings to mind an event that occurred in my apartment complex. A very good friend of mine had his tires slashed four times and a window in his car smashed once. We had no video evidence of the culprit, but it was pretty clear that for some reason he was being targeted.
Had there have been video surveillance equipment on site, I am pretty confident in saying that the culprit would have been caught red-handed and charged accordingly.
On a serious note, in some environments, simply walking outside at dusk or in the evening can be dangerous. Let’s protect ourselves, families and friends!!!
