1. A complete review of the current security configuration. This includes evaluating (and downloading if required) all security patches and Operating System Upgrades,
2. Opening the system, cleaning out Dust Bunnies, dirt and all fans. Optionally, this may include installing an additional Fan,
3. Reconfiguring (replacing if required) all/any cables. This includes Disk Data Cables, Power Connectors and the like,
4. Reconfiguring BIOS settings for Best Performance and Security. Setting Power On or BIOS access passwords,
5. Reconfigure (or setup) Virtual (Swap file) memory,
6. Reconfigure (or setup) Restore Points,
7. Reconfigure Windows Visual Effects. This step will increase the speed and performance of your system to a “Noticeable Level”,
8. Remove and cleanup redundant files such as README files and other duplicate files that are not necessary. These are usually bi-products of application upgrades and/or updates,
9. A complete OFFLINE Virus and Malware Scan***. If any are found (and there always are some), complete removal,
10. Evaluation of current Malware and Anti Virus software. Is the program configured correctly for scans and update and various other setting that can help protect your system,
11. Disable (or remove) Internet Browser Extensions (also call Helpers). Typically BH (Browser Helpers) are installed with Internet Tool Bars and other Internet Search Tools that are added into your browser.
12. Hard disk de fragmentation and reorganization. This step will improve overall performance,
13. Configure Backup strategies and steps. Configure an Emergency Boot Disk for boot your system in case of a Hard Disk Boot Failure,
14. Finally, a complete Cosmetic Cleanup. The system case, keyboard, mouse and Video Monitor are cleaned and scrubbed.

*** OFFLINE Scans are performed for the simple reason that if your system is infected, what sense does it make to boot from it and perform a scan. The system is infected. I have several tools that allow me to boot from CD, DVD or USB drives and perform complete offline scans. The scanning software ill automatically connect to the Internet, download and install new definition files. This ensures that you have a CLEAN SCAN.

 

Three BASE products are used: McAfee AntiVirus, Bit Defender Security Suite and Avaste Internet Suite. These three tools provide me with completely different scans and will all but ensure a virus and Malware free system. After these scans, along with all the steps are performed a final scan is performed using your current software.
